Fail

This blog has obviously been a complete failure. BUT I'M WORKING ON IT!!

Let's be ambitious. To come are posts on my time in Hawaii, LA and settling in at Disney on top of anything else I've promised. There's also a general half finished 2012 post just chillin' in my drafts. Will hopefully be posting more regularly next year.

Work ethic GO!

Third Time Lucky

I fail at keeping a diary, so bear with me (all of my followers lolzz) while I try to post less erratically!

Thought I should start with one of my main reasons for starting this blog... dun dun dun

DISNEY WORLD
Insert cliche Disney castle image here

In first year I noticed an ad on the back of Canta advertising the Disney Australia/New Zealand International Program. I'm not a token Disney freak, but I dunno, who can resist fairytales, magic and ummm rollercoasters? Basically I decided that at some point in my uni life I would do it. So I am!

For those who don't know, the AU/NZ Disney program involves taking on a role working at Walt Disney World for either 5 or 12 months (mine is currently 5, but I'm hoping to extend if I enjoy myself). There are lots of different roles to choose from, varying from performer to lifeguard to merchandise (me!). Work is full time, though you can request more. Pay is minimum wage and goes towards your accommodation. You can also take Disney courses. I got excited when I heard you could do Harvard/Disney courses. but apparently they've scrapped them. Unfair! I wanted THAT on my cv. The perks of the program are discounts on a lot, along with free entry to the parks and for 4 others for 6 days (or something). There are also lots of social activities and it's just incredibly social in general. One of the main accommodation complexes Vista Way is apparently known as Vista Lay, and it is supposedly one of the top places to party in the US. I wasn't planning on being much of a partier on the program and then I found out about this.. Oops. I'm also hoping to do trips to Cancun, Mexico and a Carribean cruise along with some travel around the country. YES.

All of the American Disney program bloggers seem to have done a play by play of their Disney program acceptance/experience so I might as well start with that! May even do a few vlogs at some point (haha oh god - look forward to that one).

First of all, last year I was kind of waiting for that ad to pop up in Canta again, but I started frrreaking out when it was getting later and later on in the year and I had yet to hear/see a peep. I had a google around and eventually emailed someone and ohhh shivers - the presentations were that week and the next. What's more, post-earthquake, all Christchurch presentations had been cancelled. Oh noeesss.

Very quickly a flight to Wellington was booked and I went off to the presentation in my good impression outfit and heard a bit about it. Then it was all ohh scheizenhaben because interviews were the next day! Fortunately I was leaving the next afternoon as it was a cheaper flight and I shnaffled one of the last earlyish timeslots, so karma was with me. Harry and Adam were there too, so we got food. Adam is joining me on the program.

Next day, I had a new makeshift good impression outfit on (didn't know I'd need two damnit). I had done most of my forms, except for the student status one, which I had to email in at a later date. It was a little bit disastrous really. I somehow managed to leave the house without the documents and so had to quickly rush and get them, and then didn't have time to walk so I had to drive. No coinage to pay for parking, so had to risk it gah! So basically I turned up a smidge late and shweaty. It wasn't too bad overall though! I told the interviewer about how I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, how I enjoyed babysitting and that my favourite Disney character is Pocahontas. A few days later I received my acceptance email. I do think flying up from Christchurch helped to be honest! This was followed by emailing in various documents and acquiring a new passport.

The latest stage, after receiving a pack of documents, involved flying up to Auckland for my visa interview. Adam coincidentally had his on the same day at the same time, so we hung out in Aucks, then went to the interview together. Highlight of the day was Adam singing 'It's a Small World' to the US consulate waiting room, not realising that the interviewer was joking! At least the interviewer was in a good mood for me haha.. He was literally still laughing and told me to have a good trip. VISA ACHIEVED.

My general plans are Hawaii for a week, LA for a few days, then Orlando for a few as well before my program starts on the 4th of August.. exciting!/scary? After doing the program for however long I'm planning on travelling around the US for a month before flying to Europe and doing a Contiki tour or similar. Weeeee!

I am now at the booking-flights-and-accommodation stage. Grah! I currently only have a flight to Hawaii on the 21st of July, arriving the day before I leave. Flights to Los Angeles and Orlando will depend on the cost of my hotel in LA. I'm currently struggling to find a cheap place in Hollywood that isn't in a dodgy area, "gay friendly" or prone to giving visitors scabies.

So, that is the Disney program up to now just about summarised! Apologies for the weird highlighting.. I don't know how it happened and it won't go away! Now just to pressure myself in to updating this soon, stay tuned for blogs on: LIFE, MAKEUP and ISSUES.

[EDIT: Hopefully solved highlighting issue: sort it out Blogspot.]

21 Things

Well this blog took a while to finish.. a bit ambitious for a second post I feel. At some point in the writing of this I found 3 cashew nuts next to me on the couch and ate them, so please forgive any oddities.. haha. This is how my 21st birthday went.

1. I turned 21 on the 16th of March 2012. Officially oldypants. I spent this most important of days in the land of the Jafa.
This is the Sky Tower. You can tell right?
2. Madlen was there! Probs one of my fave peeps and a day maker. Go to the movies at 10am. Only ones in the cinema ohhh yeah. (We saw This Is War. Totes perve central.)
Photobombed by the Lorax. Naturally.
3. MOST AMAZING Eggs Benedict EVER. All it needed was spinach and a hash brown on the side rrraaahhh.
Saaaalivate.
4. Other yummy food: Burger Fuel, Do(ugh)nuts(!), Gelato, suspicious risotto
Deeeeeeelicious
5. People in Auckland are rude!! From bus drivers to servers to general common courtesy while promenading, we found that everyday niceties were severely lacking. It almost explains all of the Jafas I know.. haha! Welcome to Auckland, bitches.
Rudest of all!! Mwaha
6. Primped and primed in new dress before the reason for our trip... T Swift!!!
This is how we pose.
7. We went to a French restaurant for dinner which, typically, had no vegetarian dishes. I think Madlen had something shrimpy while the chefs made me risotto with several bizarre types of mushroom.
What does it meeeean
8. Macarons while we waited in the queue :). My goodness I want some now.
This is after we broke them all in half ha
9. Hot Chelle Rae. Totes crushing on the lead singer.
There's mah biff all squishied on the left.
10. We got Strawberry Daiquiris in flashing glasses! I sat on mine while we were waiting for the bus the next day :(
Deeeelightful
11. TAYLOR SWIFT!! The reason for our trip!! She. Was. Amazing. Particular faves were Our Song, Last Kiss and Love Story, while Enchanted WILL be the first dance at my wedding. Cannotttt stress enough how amazing it was :)
Babe.
Babe.
Babe.
12. The nice cocktail place we were planning on heading to after was a bit too busy, so we got shots and bought some champagne on the way home before spying on all the people in the surrounding apartments.
We were awks the only ones in this club.
13. You're invited to my party. Just joss! Has already been. But here we have for your viewing pleasure..
The invitation!
14. Birthday dress. Love Asos.
Doesn't look quite as good on me as on this model.. biatch.
15. We had a dinner at Tutto Bene beforehand - me, my parents, Maddie, my brother and his cuteypie girlfriend. Dinner was typically yum (I had risotto for some reason, but was delishhh) (How many times can you mention risotto in one blog post?*), as were the cocktails...
Nawww
16. It was all a bit cute.
The photos are mainly of people mingling or eating.. There were more people there though, I promise!
17. There were speeches and a video of "a day in the life" (which shall appear here if it ever pops up on the internet). Highlights include the origination of "Spewlia" (obvious), comments on the messiness of my room.. valid, insinuating that I have a mohair fetish (lies!) and a brief photo montage of my "romeos" (not all of them thank goodness.. haha..)
Starting with a picture of me looking like a creep
18. My favourite song of the moment waaaaahh... Unfortunately it emptied the dancefloor haha

19. Viki and I had fun shneaking v out the back like naughty 16 year olds
So sneaky
20. AFTER PARTY!! I had to do 21 shots of various liquids in response to some rude (exaggerated!) things I was guilty of, like having stalkers or inviting myself and 3 other guys to a singles night (it was a joke!!) (haha!) I didn't realise how drunk I was by this point...
I'm not sure how that fire came in to being
21. We all got drunk.
Especially me.
Good times. Thank you everybody.. should everybody ever happen to read this ramble. MWAH.

* Risotto!!

Heya Sweetie

I'm not sure about the name of my blog. I'm a little bit in love with it. I also kinda deeply despise it. Like the title of this post. And asterixes*. Vom much?

This year is going to be different. I know this not because I spent day one pitifully washing dishes while dripping with nausea in the middle of nowhere**, but because this year is THE year. I'm turning 21, getting my fookin' degree (with any luck) and shifting to the other side of the world to a place where dreams come true. Maybe by the end of this year I'll stop having such wack dreams and no longer be the "odd girl"? LOLJOKE!

Anywho, these are the good years. The ones I want to remember, and potentially tell my future sp/ouse/awn about after some minor revising of the nitty gritty. The people I've met, the times we've shared and even simply living away from home have made these years the best. Yes, even through the hangovers, failed papers, vague heartaches and literally spending the past year or so living on shaky ground.

So this is my life in writing. My friends. My future. My fun. My (Disney)world.

Well that was cheesy,

                                        Julia xo

* I always read them while reading what I'm reading and it often makes a confusing thing more confusing and I just end up confused, what?
** Can you drip nausea? You can now. I was THAT queasy.
